Successfully completed state full-time training to become an emergency paramedic for the first time

After three years of full-time training, the first two trainees from the Erfurt city administration were able to successfully complete their training as emergency paramedics.

On August 14, 2024, Aniela Hausdörfer and Hans Heckert successfully completed their training as emergency paramedics. The training is divided into theory and practice. The practical part was completed at the training rescue station of the Erfurt professional fire department and in the hospitals. The theoretical training is carried out by the DRK Bildungswerk in Meiningen. In this way, the trainees gain knowledge and skills that they can apply in practice based on the current state of science.

After their training, emergency paramedics can work in various areas of the Erfurt professional fire department. For example, they can be used on the ambulance, the rescue control center or directly on the fire engine.

The young emergency paramedics' subsequent career training in the intermediate fire service enables them to work on fire engines. Because this is also the stated goal of the professional fire brigade. “We want to counteract the shortage of applicants for the fire department and train young people as emergency paramedics straight after school and then take them on to work for the fire department straight away,” says fire department spokesman Lars Angler.

This project has a promising future. That's why the Erfurt professional fire department is currently looking after two additional trainees in their second year of training. Following this, two more young people will begin their training to become emergency paramedics on September 1, 2024. They are looked after by experienced emergency paramedics and the practice instructor Marcus Geßler.
