Winter days in the city are rare. When it snows a lot in Erfurt, traffic chaos and accidents quickly arise. In short: the disruption to normal life is in the foreground and before there is any joy about the white splendor, it has already turned into a brown sludge.

Erfurters often look for winter fun outside of their city. One such place is the Reinsberge. A possible starting point is Plaue.

The Reinsberge rise to approx. 600 meters. There is often snow there when there is no winter in sight in Erfurt. There are various tours from Plaue that have one thing in common: they all go uphill.

Conclusion

Plaue is very easy to reach by train. The journey from Erfurt main station takes half an hour. By car it takes a little longer. Parking spaces can be found in front of the outdoor pool. If you like cycling in winter, you can get to Plaue in under 2 hours via the Geraradweg - provided the cycle path is cleared.
