Christmas market Erfurt
The real attractions
At the Christmas market in Erfurt you can find everything that is important and right for such a folk festival: bumper cars, a Ferris wheel, hectoliters of mulled wine, bratwurst and various consumer items. These are all quite mundane things. But Christmas has another aspect and it is spiritual. This can be found in four attractions at the Erfurt Christmas market.
The Advent wreath, the Christmas pyramid and the nativity scene have a direct connection to the traditional festival. The fairytale forest has “grown” with the market over the years. Even if Cinderella and the like have nothing to do with Christmas, they are an integral part of the Erfurt Christmas feeling.
Christmas pyramid
The pyramid measures eight meters. Like her little model from the Erzgebirge, she rotates and shows different figures.
Advent wreath
The Advent wreath is also larger than its models from our living rooms. Here, without candles, these will be added to the opening date:

The fact that the Christmas market in Erfurt makes small things big is also evident in the nativity scene. 14 almost life-sized wooden figures don't fit under every Christmas tree. This fits the tree on Cathedral Square.
Fairytale forest
The forest has been lost to the fairytale forest over the years. This was located on Cathedral Square for several years. The “buildings” of the individual fairy tale scenes are now being constructed at Benediktsplatz and the Rathausbrücke.
This does not detract from the fascination that comes from the fairy tale characters in their environment.
