Wallichen
Final stop in the east
Good reason to build a village here
Wallichen is “jwd”, i.e. “very far out”. It is 10 kilometers from the cathedral square in Erfurt to Wallichen . Further special features: No district is further east of the state capital and none of the incorporated villages has fewer inhabitants. Good reasons to take a look at this part of the city of Erfurt.
We start a little outside. An old one falls here
Visitors from the big city realize that not only the city of Erfurt ends here, but also all bus and car traffic.
However, through traffic is generated by hikers and cyclists. The popular cycle path from Erfurt to Weimar, part of the “Thuringian city chain”, runs through the town.
We continue walking and reach the local church and cemetery. The Lochmann family grave is also located there. Until 1945, Wallichen was dominated by manor owners, whose last representatives are buried here. The small church is mostly open and points to another special feature of the village: the “Ecumenical St. James Pilgrimage Route Görlitz-Vacha” leads through this district of Erfurt, which is also known as the “Garden Village on the Pilgrimage Route”. So anyone who needs silence and care on the 470 kilometer long pilgrimage path will find it in front of this altar:
Place fits in a photo
On our walk through the village we discover the village square. There are charging stations for electric bikes and three ducks here.
Then we go back again because: Wallichen is a very small place. So small it fits in a photo:
Conclusion:
For cyclists and pilgrims, Wallichen is a stop on their way to Weimar or Erfurt. The village is otherwise a quiet outpost of the state capital Erfurt. We were particularly impressed by the small church, which invites you to visit, and the nature around the place.
