LPD-EF: Police operation on the occasion of the Thuringian state elections

The Thuringian police are preparing for a busy weekend. On the occasion of the elections for the 8th Thuringian state parliament taking place on September 1st, 2024, there will not only be election parties for the individual parties throughout Thuringia on Saturday and Sunday, but also several registered meetings. The focus here is on the state capital Erfurt.

The police see themselves as a neutral guarantor of freedom of assembly. Disturbances that could impair the peaceful conduct of the election, the registered meetings and election events will be consistently prevented. Several hundred police officers will be on duty on both days.

The police currently have no evidence of a specific threat in connection with the Thuringian state elections. However, it cannot be ruled out that disruptions and even criminal offenses may occur in connection with the registered demonstrations and rallies.

On Saturday, several demonstrations were registered in Erfurt city center between 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Those responsible are expecting several thousand participants. This means that closures and restrictions on public and local transport are to be expected. Due to the dynamic operational situation, no specific information can be given about which locations will be affected and at what times.

For election day, the Thuringian police are preparing primarily for gatherings in Weimar, Jena and Erfurt. Several demonstrations are expected, especially in the area of ​​the Thuringian state parliament, from 3 p.m. until late in the evening.
