On June 8th, 2024 it's that time again: the children's flea market in Erfurt's city center is now starting its third round. It is now traditionally celebrated close to Children's Day, this year on Catholic Day, postponed by a week.

Over 300 children have registered and will be selling toys, books and lots of small items on the Anger this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In order to give as many children as possible the opportunity, the flea market was divided into two time slots. One group sells from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and the other group sells from 1:45 p.m. to 4 p.m.

“The change is of course a huge challenge. But we have so many registrations and are trying to give many children a place. And so far the weather forecasts are looking great,” says Patricia Stepputtis, city manager for the city of Erfurt.

A poster campaign in the city's tram stops is advertising the flea market this week in order to bring in lots of customers for the children. In this way, it is now the largest inner-city flea market run by children for children in Thuringia.

The city management of the city of Erfurt is providing 90 beer tent sets. Standing fees are not charged. This means it is free for every child.

“It’s great that we are enabling children to use their inner city. My hope is that this will give them a stronger connection,” Patricia Stepputtis continued.

In the 2021 inner city profiling concept, Erfurt residents wanted more family-friendly offers. The children's flea market is part of the catalog of measures.
