Walk through the Nordpark in Erfurt

State-of-the-art green space

Nordpark Erfurt with joggers.

The Nordpark is one of the large parks in Erfurt. We start our walk at the Pappelstieg Bridge.

This brings us to Auenstrasse, which cuts through the park. However, this “average” is no longer as intense as it was before the park was renovated as part of Buga 2021.

Where these benches are...

…cars were parked in front of the redesign of Auenstrasse. Auenstrasse was a normal road here, which also carried through traffic.

The division of the site into an eastern half...

…and a western half…

...probably only exists today in the minds of those who have experienced the park in this way. Today the Auenstrasse in the park is simply a well-paved road that invites you to all kinds of activities.

Let’s first turn to the western half…

Anyone who still has the old Nordpark in their head will notice that the basic structure has largely been preserved.

There was already a seating area at this point before the redesign...

...the benches and the lovingly landscaped plants, on the other hand, are new.

This continues and we move on too. It goes uphill towards Baumerstrasse. Once you reach the top, the park turns out to be a real garden park.

These discounts and routes clearly bear the signature of Buga 2021.

At the southern tip, the careful renovation can be seen in detail. Basically, this vantage point already consists of the same elements during the GDR era.

The bench, superstructure and railings were simply renewed or upgraded.

The design of this part is completely new – it goes back again:

Here visitors can explore the park barrier-free. But sledding in winter is no longer possible.

We banish the winters of bygone days from our memories and head to the western part of the park.

Past these happy dancers...

...we go to the adventure playground. Here you want to be a child again.

Mother/father or grandma/grandpa wouldn't be bad either. Uncle/aunt works too. But we are currently on our walk without an appendix. That's why it continues.

Past the skate park and the basketball court….

...we reach the Nordbad.

Nordbad Erfurt in the Nordpark.

This is almost as old as the park. Both were built in the 1920s to offer the people of the city of Erfurt a place worth living in. And that is still the case today.

This ends the walk.

Conclusion:

Playgrounds, sports facilities and, last but not least, the Nordbad – that’s really chic.

In addition, Nordpark is also a place for simple things. Sometimes it's just a view at a certain time that defines Nordpark.

For Erfurt, the Nordpark is more than just a neighborhood park. The numerous opportunities for leisure activities attract people from all over the city.

The Nordpark is a state-of-the-art green space.
