Volunteer security advisors are being sought

The Crime Prevention Council of the state capital Erfurt is once again looking for committed volunteers of senior age to advise and protect older citizens.

The senior security advisors project has been a great success since 2015: volunteers are active in community centers, senior citizens' clubs and church communities and provide information about the latest scams. In recent years, not only senior citizens have taken part in the events, as fraudsters no longer only focus on the older generation. The advice also covers topics such as burglary protection and road safety.

The need for advice is constantly increasing, especially at the Crime Prevention Council's information stands at the flower and garden market or at district festivals. More and more people from different age groups are looking for advice and support here.

“To meet this growing need, we need more senior safety advisors. Fraudsters are constantly inventing new tricks and profiting from the ignorance and good nature of their victims. It is more important than ever to make people aware of these perfidious machinations so that they can protect themselves,” emphasizes Mayor Andreas Horn.

How do you become a senior safety advisor? Interested parties can apply until August 23rd. After a successful aptitude test, you will receive the necessary basics in a two-day training course. “Senior security advisors are not 'auxiliary police officers', but rather inform, clarify and support police work on site,” explains Kerstin Teply, head of the Crime Prevention Council office.

Volunteering requires neutrality, active participation in social life, social commitment, mobility and experience in dealing with new media, especially presentation media. In addition, those interested should not be afraid to speak in front of people.
