Snow in the Steiger

Looking at individuals

Details that otherwise receive little attention

The Steiger appears in different outfits over the course of a year. From spring to summer, autumn to winter: the forest in Erfurt's south is sometimes green, colorful, gray and sometimes white. Especially when it has freshly snowed, the Steiger shows off a very special side. The basic structure of the forest becomes visible through the lack of leaves and the monochrome base coat.

It is the individual trees that catch the viewer's field of vision. Details become visible that otherwise receive little attention in the green and gray of the rest of the year.

Main protagonist of the forest

The forest continues to be a place for leisure, relaxation and sport. These activities also adapt to the conditions of a winter landscape.

But: This winter landscape makes the individual tree stand out as the “main actor” of the forest. Marked by age, caught in the neighbor's branches - individual fates become apparent here.

No two trees are alike. What we often encounter in summer and autumn as a green entity or colorful forest dissolves in the snow into what makes the forest: the individual tree.

Frozen back to town

Once you start looking, you won't be able to get out of the winter forest any time soon. Stories are told on every corner and fairy-tale characters appear.

At some point, your feet are frozen, your fingers are numb, you head back to the city. What will he show us next time we visit, this forest with its trees?
