The Reinsberge

Hikes or bike tours between Ilmenau and Arnstadt

  • 11 kilometers long
  • 35 square kilometers in size
  • at the highest point 605 meters high

These are the key details of the Reinsberge between Arnstadt and Ilmenau in Thuringia. All in all, an insignificant little ridge. Almost. If it weren't for the fantastic view on the western edge of the Reinsberge. A steep escarpment on the limestone rock provides a clear view over forests, towns and plateaus up to the main ridge of the Thuringian Forest.

The view alone is worth taking the hike over the Pulpit near Plaue. The rocks are reminiscent of Saxon Switzerland. The lush vegetation with rare plants attracts flower lovers to the heights, especially in spring and summer. The Reinsberge are easy to reach. From Erfurt it's just a stone's throw from either car or train to this little hiking and cycling paradise.
