The Old Opera

Historical elegance for cultural diversity

The Erfurt city library is housed in the Golden Unicorn House

The Alte Oper Erfurt is a jewel of classicist architecture that is now used as a versatile event location. The magnificent building, which initially served as a summer theater after it was built in 1867, is now an event space for concerts, chanson and cabaret. An eventful history, in which the building police have repeatedly played a role for almost a hundred years, has made the Alte Oper a difficult property to manage. The Erfurt entrepreneur Wolfgang Staub, who had already made a name for himself in the city with DASDIE, has been running the Alte Oper since 2003.

With its elegant, nostalgic charm, the Alte Oper attracts both locals and tourists who want to enjoy the special ambience. Whether classical operetta, hits, rock music or comedy – the Alte Oper Erfurt gives every event a unique character. The concert hall offers space for more than 900 visitors.
