Park at the former Gispersleben thermal power station

Start-up area becomes amusement park

Two “highlights”

The park at the former thermal power plant is located on the southern edge of Gispersleben. In the north it borders on Kiliani Park .

That doesn't sound that exciting at first and the present appears to be rather solid. What's exciting about this Erfurt park is the past.

But first to the here and now. of the Northern Geraaue, the area will be upgraded as part of Buga 2021. The result is a hilly landscape

with two real “highlights”. On the one hand there is the children's playground. Anyone who raised their children in earlier times will immediately see that he is really good.

Don't miss anything!

And this place made for our little ones is also very popular with today's parents, grandparents and everyone who has to do with children.

The second special feature of the park is a place with such equipment:

These are used to build muscle. The park at the former thermal power plant houses an open-air bodybuilding studio. Anyone who has really tormented themselves can relax comfortably on site.

Way into the past

Otherwise, there is the normal “Park by the Water” program on the newly designed Gera loop.

By the way, during the renovation phase in 2016, the whole thing looks like this:

Which brings us on the way into the area's past.

At the beginning of the 20th century, one of the first electricity plants in the Erfurt area was built on the site of today's park. The basis for this is the conversion of a traditional mill to generate electricity. An early start-up, so to speak, that produces and supplies a new product: electricity.

Memories

After numerous expansions, the plant, which had grown from a mill to a large power plant over the decades, was shut down in 1996. The final demolition will take place in 2016.

Then the conversion to the “park at the former thermal power plant” begins, which already took shape in 2017:

The traces of the past have largely disappeared, but a few clues to the former function of the site have been preserved. The Mühlgraben still borders today

that somehow remind you of the past.
