Easter holiday program of the municipal museums

The city museums invite you to a colorful Easter holiday program. Workshops and guided tours for creative and inquisitive people are available in the Museum of Thuringian Folklore, the Small and Old Synagogue, the City Museum and the Natural History Museum. Permanent and special exhibitions focus on urban and natural history and questions are unraveled using spectacular objects.

Old synagogue

From treasure to your own jewelry

The Old Synagogue is best known for the treasure in the cellar. A large part of the treasure is jewelry - jewelry from the Middle Ages. Which rings and brooches, which belts and which other jewelry people wore back then, why this jewelry is still preserved today and many other questions will be answered on site. This brings a lot of inspiration. With these creative ideas you can now make your own jewelry from buttons. If you don't like jewelry, you can design a keychain.

On a joint tour through the exhibition floors of the Natural History Museum, various animal species are explored that are now threatened with extinction or have even already disappeared. Giraffe neck and lion's mane

Why do giraffes have such an extremely long neck? Why do only male lions have manes? And how did the black-backed tapir get its funny name? A short exploration tour on Noah's Ark raises many questions about the animals on our planet and allows us to find the answers together. With a bit of luck, a subsequent quiz will lead to a colorfully filled treasure chest!

Money, money, money

On Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. everything revolves around money. The afternoon begins with a visit to the coin treasure in the Old Synagogue. What can actually be seen on coins? What did the coins and banknotes of the Middle Ages look like? Where were coins made? After a short tour of the Old Synagogue, we continue through various places in the city to the city museum - always on the trail of money.

In the city museum, participants can try out for themselves how difficult or easy it was to mint a coin.
