From April 8th to May 3rd, 2024, the exhibition entitled “Into the light... never-shown works from five decades” by Sven Schmidt from Gera can be seen in our gallery in the Haus zum Bunten Löwen on the Erfurt Krämerbrücke.

Sven Schmidt paints because he has to paint. This inner urge has resulted in many works that have been shown in exhibitions over the decades. However, some works have remained hidden until today. In the exhibition on the Krämerbrücke, these works from different creative periods are shown for the first time and brought INTO THE LIGHT. The resulting variety of topics corresponds to different artistic techniques. Black charcoal drawings meet colorful paintings and gouaches, with red playing a prominent role. Heads and bodies are brought onto the page with expressive lines.
Sven Schmidt's pictures are not quiet. They are moving and want to move the viewer and make them think. People, their actions in the world and towards their fellow human beings are a central concern in Schmidt's work. And so some of the works that dealt with the topic of militarism in the 1980s appear more relevant today than ever.
