A suspicious letter shipment triggered an extensive operation this morning in Erfurt at Benediktsplatz. In the morning, a letter with inflammatory content and a suspicious substance was received in the city administration's post office. The fire department then came into action with around 50 comrades. The health department and the police were also on site. The post office with a total of five employees was evacuated as a precaution. A chemist on site ruled out that the substance was an explosive or fire hazard. The shipment was seized by the police for further laboratory examination. The police investigation into the unknown sender is ongoing. (JN)
