Kyffhäuser east side
Linden avenue, border corridor and pyramids
Cross for a cyclist
Anyone who thinks of Kyffhäuser quickly thinks of the monument of the same name. Emperor Barbarossa in conjunction with Wilhelm 1, plus a bratwurst at the foot of the monument - you can do that . The Kyffhäuser is not only a monument, but also a mountain and so there is much more to discover there. We took a closer look at the eastern part.
it always goes uphill. At the first rest area we come across this cross, which is probably dedicated to a cyclist:
We don't know any more details. If you know more, please send us a message: redaktion@ich-liebe-erfurt.de.
Across the border and back
The path we are on is something like the “Rennsteig des Kyffhäuser” – if you continue here, you can hike through the entire Kyffhäuser from east to west. But when we get to the top we turn north. It goes downhill again through a deciduous forest.
The forest then merges into the fruit tree plantations near Tilleda. We also crossed the border into Saxony-Anhalt. Always in view of the Kyffhäuser monument.
Quiet area without parking
The last section of our hike scores with a wonderful view. The dumps in the Mansfeld region look like pyramids:
Conclusion:
The area is quiet. There is no official hiking parking lot in Ichstedt. We parked our car on a lawn next to a path, which probably didn't bother anyone. We really liked the mix between forest and field with a beautiful view far into the Mansfelder Land. If you want a certain level of tourist infrastructure, you should start in Tilleda. There is a parking lot and catering options at the Pfalz Tilleda. But these are not always open. A special highlight is the linden avenue with its old trees.
