On Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 6:00 p.m., there will be a guided tour with curator Marit Lena Herrmann through the exhibition “Ute Mahler, Werner Mahler & Ludwig Schirmer. On strange days over rivers into cities and villages to the end of the world” in the Kunsthalle. Marit Lena Herrmann is not only the curator of the exhibition in the Kunsthalle, but has also been working as project manager for the “Catalog raisonné Ute Mahler and Werner Mahler” since 2021. The exhibition ends the following Sunday, May 26th, with a final public tour at 11:15 a.m.

Exhibition ends on May 26, 2024

Ute Mahler, born in Berka in 1949, and Werner Mahler, born in Boßdorf in 1950, are among the outstanding German photographers. Deide co-founded the renowned Ostkreuz photo agency in 1990, the most successful agency in Germany run by photographers themselves. Today, as then, her works impress with a humanistic view of the world. Always committed to realism, her photographs are nevertheless characterized by a strong subjective moment.

The title of the exhibition, which sounds like a travelogue, is made up of the names of the groups of works by the photographers Ute Mahler and Werner Mahler and combines their photo projects, which have been created under joint authorship since 2008. The new project “A Village” with photographs by Ludwig Schirmer, Werner Mahler and Ute Mahler will also be presented as an exhibition within the exhibition.

The exhibition is supported by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Thuringia, the Sparkasse Mittelthüringen and the Sparkasse Cultural Foundation Hesse-Thuringia.
