Health department: With the rubber dinghy to take samples at the Stotternheim lido

Environmental health protection is a subject area in the health department. Among other things, the employees have the task of regularly checking the quality of drinking water installations, bathing facilities and bathing waters. This happens monthly during the bathing season from May 15th to September 15th.

The 2024 swimming season is underway. As soon as 25 degrees Celsius or more is forecast for a day, the rush to the outdoor pools, but also to the open waters in Kühnhausen, on the Nordstrand and at the Stotternheim lido begins. Before the bathing fun, it's not just the preparations of the operators - at the Stotternheim lido it is the municipal utility subsidiary SWE Bäder - but also the legally required control of the water quality.

“We check the visibility depth using a measuring device. We have a Secchi disk for this. We also have another measuring device to measure the pH value and temperature and to monitor the meteorological conditions,” says Markus Kliewe. He also checks the bathing water for possible contamination.

“The current controls show no abnormalities in the drinking water from the bathing water system or in the bathing water. The results of the bathing water investigation can be seen on the website of the Thuringian State Office for Consumer Protection,” explains Kliewe. He sends the samples to a licensed laboratory in the Thuringian State Office for Consumer Protection, which delivers the results within a few days. If anything unusual occurs, information signs will be put up and, if necessary, a bathing ban will be issued.

The most recent inspection at the Stotternheim lido was able to confirm once again the excellent water quality that had already been confirmed.
