Children have been looked after at Berliner Straße 52 for half a century. Today's daycare center “Spatzennest am Park” celebrated this special anniversary on Thursday morning with guests from science, politics and administration.

Mayor recognizes the work of educators

The institution is run by JUL non-profit GmbH, which operates a total of five daycare centers in Erfurt. The daycare center was completely renovated in 2017 and since then educators, children and parents have been able to enjoy the idyllic location in the small park on the Geraufer.

Around 180 children are currently looked after here, around half of whom have a migrant background. The facility has special qualities as a “language daycare center” and “Thuringian parent-child center” and takes part in the state model project “Diversity”, which is supervised by professors from the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences. In this way, the children learn the German language in a playful and everyday way, also with the support of the multilingual staff. Facility manager Sabine Jost pointed this out in her welcome.

Mayor Andreas Bausewein also praised this special achievement of the daycare center in the north of Erfurt in his welcoming speech. This task is not easy, but it is all the more important in order to be able to offer children the best opportunities for integration. “As a father, you know how much responsibility it is to look after children. “I have the greatest respect that the educators here take care of so many children every day,” said the mayor.
