A tree for a new life

Just in time for Children's Day on June 1st, the Helios Klinikum Erfurt is taking a special
step towards long-term sustainability: For every newborn that
sees the light of day in our clinic, we plant a tree in the Thuringian Forest.
“With the tree sponsorship, we are not only celebrating the start of a new life, but
also making a positive contribution to the environment,” says Florian Lendholt, clinical director of the
Helios Clinic Erfurt. Each newborn is symbolically associated with a tree that
is planted in the child's name. “These around 1,600 tree sponsorships per year
not only contribute to the preservation of our natural resources in Thuringia, but
also offer a long-term connection to our homeland,” adds Prof. Dr. Heinrich V.
Groesdonk, medical director of the clinic. The trees are
used exclusively for reforestation in the Thuringian Forest.
Priv.-Doz. Dr. Gern Naumann, head of gynecology and obstetrics, emphasizes the
importance of this initiative: “As a maximum care provider, it is our responsibility not only
to promote the health of our small and large patients, but
also to create a healthy environment for future generations. The introduction of
tree sponsorships for newborns is a significant step in this direction.”

Contribution to the well-being of our region

The Helios Klinikum Erfurt works closely with the tree sponsors Thuringia, who
have already planted around 1,500 trees in the Thuringian forests in the name of the clinic in 2023.
The parents of each newborn receive a sperm card from the delivery room team, which
certifies their participation in the sponsorship and has a practical use. With the
personalized seed card, wildflowers can be planted and thus
help protect bees and other insects. “We are proud of our
collaboration with the Helios Klinikum Erfurt. In this way, together we can
make a tangible, long-term contribution to the well-being of our region and its youngest members.
Every tree that is planted today is an enrichment for future
generations,” says Curtis Schüßler, managing director of Baumpaten Thuringia.
