It took four years until the first bathers were able to swim and refresh themselves in the Dreienbrunnenbad pool again, families occupied the lawns and children played in the paddling pool. In 2020 the doors closed behind the last bather. The craftsmen have been the main actors in the family pool at Breitstrom since 2022 and remained so beyond the planned period until the summer of 2024.

Limited visitor capacity and still some open points

And the question again and again: When will it finally open? The wait for your first swim in the Dreienbrunnenbad is over: the 25x15 m stainless steel pool and the oval children's paddling pool are ready, the water treatment technology works perfectly. A barrier-free changing room as well as showers and a corresponding entry into the new pool now enable all user groups to swim in the “threesome”.

On July 19, 2024, the first bathers were able to jump into the cool water. Mayor Andreas Horn personally welcomed the first visitors. “The start of the Dreienbrunnenbad is a long-awaited beginning, a start-up phase,” says SWE Bäder managing director Kathrin Weiß. “Initially 300 bathers can be in the pool at the same time, then more later. The Dreier will remain the smallest of Erfurt's outdoor pools and will certainly reach its capacity limits on hot days. The fact that not all areas are 100 percent finished does not detract from the fun of swimming.”

The barrier to the Breitstrom and the large construction site at the paper weir was initially built provisionally but safely using plastic tanks and OSB panels. The planned railing must be put out to tender again and will only be installed after the season. The sun deck between the pool and the side wing will not be usable until next season. Only a small part of the lawn cannot yet be used as a lying area. The hedge planting is also still low and still needs to grow and needs some time. The gastronomy, under the direction of Ronny Lessau and the Kreativtankstelle, initially only cooks, taps and serves a smaller selection in a container, which will also be used as an outside bar after the rooms in the main building are completed.

Admission prices are reduced until the official opening on August 16, 2024: adults pay 4.00 euros, concessions pay 2.70 euros and children up to 16 years pay 2.00 euros. On the day of bathing it is open from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., otherwise in the high season every day from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be even more space for visitors at the ceremonial opening of the pool on August 16, 2024. An extensive program of entertainment and special activities is planned for the day.

Bicycle parking spaces are only available to a limited extent due to the ongoing construction work at the paper weir. As before, parking is only possible on the side of the road.

You can also use local transport with swimming trunks, a swimsuit, a towel, a swimming animal, a child and a cone. It's a 10-minute walk by tram to Steigerstraße.
