Walk through Dittelstedt in Erfurt

The big city in sight

Dittelstedt has been connected to the city of Erfurt for centuries. Today through Rudolstädter Straße.

Dittelstedt is a street village and so we first walk along the main street. The first junction can be found at the war memorial…

Passing the ice cream parlor Sonja, we change to Rudolstädter Straße into northern Dittelstedt.

The fire department station catches the eye here. The architecture, let's say, idiosyncratic for its purpose...

...houses an impressive fleet of vehicles that is capable of more than putting out a field fire in the Dittelstedter Flur.

This brings us to the field or fields. These are ubiquitous in Dittelstedt because almost every street ends there:

This confirms the first impression: Dittelstedt has a very rural character.

Away from the main street, it has its charm.

But being rural doesn't mean that residents have to do without the amenities that a big city like Erfurt offers.
