The Klarchen in Erfurt

Measure area M6. This name will be used to redesign the remains of the old Erfurt sewage treatment plant in 2019. The starting point at this time is an area that has been fenced in and completely overgrown for years. This will be cleared in the first construction phase.
The project is part of the renewal of the Northern Gera meadow as part of Buga 2021. After completion, the name “Klärchen” quickly became established. A loving but also only reference to the history of the area.
The special appeal of the “Klärchen” lies in the integration of the Gera. The formerly steep bank will be flattened as part of the transformation into a river. This creates a kind of amphitheater with the tiered seating area with Erfurt's main river as a stage.
In this part, numerous oversized wooden loungers invite you to linger.
The Klarchen – how much better does this name sound than “M6” – consists of another part. In addition to a playground and the beach volleyball court, there are also several really large swings. There isn't something like this everywhere:
The Geraradweg also leads through the area. This connects the Thuringian Forest with the Unstrut Cycle Path and thus the Erfurt city center with the Northern Geraaue. Interesting in this context: There is a small self-service workshop for bicycle repairs on the side of the path.
Toilets and hospitality complement the practical part, but the real appeal lies in the piece of nature in the middle of the city that awaits visitors.
Conclusion:
The Klarchen is initially a community lawn for the neighboring residential areas. A further attraction is certainly the beach volleyball court, the Gera access and the easy accessibility via the Gera cycle path. Depending on where visitors focus their attention, there are a surprising number of options in the small area
to become active or simply to discover beautiful things.
