September 11, 2023 9:08 p.m. Frankfurt am Main

This Monday evening, at 5:45 p.m., a 46-year-old Czech driver of a Czech trailer was driving on Autobahn 4 in the direction of Frankfurt am Main between the Eisenach/East and Eisenach/West junctions in the right of three available lanes. A Ukrainian Toyota car had to stop on the hard shoulder due to a technical defect. For reasons that are still unclear, the driver of the trailer came too far to the right onto the hard shoulder and collided with the left rear of the broken down car that had just stopped. The car was pushed into the adjacent guardrail and came to a stop there. After the collision, the truck driver veered further off the road to the right, broke through the adjacent guardrail and drove down the embankment. The trailer tipped over and the entire team came to a stop in an adjacent field. As a result of the accident, the 41-year-old Ukrainian driver of the Toyota car and his 17-year-old Ukrainian daughter were seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital. The accident resulted in preliminary total damage amounting to 100,000 euros. After a one-hour full closure and a 3km backlog, only the right lane is currently closed for the rescue of the trailer. The rescue measures will take several hours as the load from the trailer must first be unloaded, which is a laborious process. The investigation into the cause of the accident is now the subject of the police investigation. Criminal proceedings were initiated against the person who caused the accident.
