In the early hours of today there was a serious truck accident on the A9 between the Bad Lobenstein and Schleiz junctions in the direction of Berlin. A 56-year-old Tunisian drove his tractor-trailer off the middle lane to the right and collided with a heavy goods vehicle (SLT) that was driving there. Due to the collision, the SLT left its lane and drove into the right guardrail. The person who caused the accident veered to the left and collided with the central barrier. The vehicle became wedged in the guardrail and pushed it into oncoming traffic. According to current knowledge, the cause of the accident can be traced back to a driving style that was significantly too fast and inappropriate to the weather conditions. There was total damage of around EUR 85,000. No one was injured. Both lanes had to be completely closed for around two hours.
