Yesterday, Friday, winter sent its first real messengers over Thuringia in the form of snow, sleet showers and squalls. Since Friday morning, eleven weather-related traffic accidents have occurred on Thuringia's motorways. Three people were slightly injured and there was preliminary total damage of 140,000 euros. Some drivers were also still using summer tires. In addition, in almost all cases the vehicle drivers did not adapt their speed to the winter road conditions. In cases without criminal proceedings, the vehicle drivers can now expect severe fines. The accidents led to numerous traffic disruptions in travel with kilometre-long traffic jams. Further snowfall is forecast for Thuringia in the next few days, so the Thuringian motorway police are appealing to road users to always adapt their driving style to the prevailing road conditions. During an accident on the A 73 in the direction of Suhl near Eisfeld early on Saturday morning, shortly after midnight, officers from the southern motorway police station in Zella-Mehlis also detected the smell of alcohol on the breath of the 32-year-old who caused the accident. A voluntary breath alcohol test carried out on site showed a level of 0.62 per mille. The person who caused the accident is now facing criminal proceedings for endangering road traffic and a blood sample was taken. After the accident, the vehicle only has scrap value.
