On Saturday evening at 10:10 p.m. on the BAB 9 towards Berlin between the Dittersdorf and Triptis junctions, a semi-trailer was reported to be on fire. When the police arrived, the fire was confirmed. The fire broke out on the right rear wheels of a Polish Volvo semi-trailer and had already spread to the load, consisting of fresh cucumbers from Spain. The 64-year-old The Polish driver was able to steer the vehicle onto the hard shoulder and uncouple the tractor unit from the trailer. The fire was extinguished by the Schleiz volunteer fire department. There was total damage of around 20,000 euros. The Berlin-bound lane was completely closed for around 30 minutes. The right lane was then closed for several hours so the vehicle could be recovered. Due to the low traffic volume, there were no traffic jams during this time.
