Officials from the motorway police's control group for commercial passenger and freight traffic checked a tractor-trailer on the A71 near Zella-Mehlis last Thursday. The semi-trailer was loaded with a 40-foot shipping container, which in turn was filled with spruce wood for export to China. The freight was to be brought to the container terminal in Halle (Saale). But the journey ended with an inspection and a wheel claw because the vehicle was a good 18% overloaded. Only when the permissible total weight of 40 tons had been reached after unloading was the 60-year-old Polish driver allowed to continue his journey. Proceedings for the confiscation of profits were initiated against the company.
