A71 near Erfurt (ots)

Yesterday afternoon a serious traffic accident occurred on the A71 in the direction of Sangerhausen. Near Erfurt-Gispersleben, a 32-year-old German wanted to overtake several trucks in the left lane with his van. According to several witnesses, one of the trucks also pulled into the left lane without paying attention to the traffic behind. The young van driver was no longer able to evade or brake appropriately. He drove into the rear of the semi-trailer without braking. He is seriously injured. The 57-year-old Polish truck driver remained uninjured.

The Sangerhausen direction had to be completely closed for almost three hours due to the extensive rescue and recovery measures. The amount of material damage caused is estimated at 10,000 euros.

In addition to the motorway police, the rescue service and the fire department were on duty. Since the transporter was no longer drivable due to the damage caused by the accident, the vehicle had to be recovered by a towing service.
