The cathedral square in Erfurt is an impressive square. The majestic backdrop of the cathedral and Severikirche frames markets, festivals and concerts all year round. Once a year there is a very special festival for all wine lovers and connoisseurs, the wine festival. Wine was already grown in Erfurt in the Middle Ages. In 1161, a chronicler described the city of Erfurt as “surrounded by vineyards”. Wine grows here again today. On the Petersberg, the Erfurt Wine Guild takes care of grapes of the white wine varieties Riesling, Müller-Thurgau and Silvaner as well as the red grapes Portugieser and Dornfelder. At the wine festival on the first weekend in September, the cathedral square is transformed into a paradise for wine lovers. But even if you don't normally drink a drop, you'll definitely get a taste for it! Imagine a selection of the best wines from the region and beyond, just waiting for you to discover. Red, white, rosé or maybe a sparkling sparkling wine? There's everything your heart desires here!
Winemakers from the Rhine, the Nahe, the Saale-Unstrut area and other wine-growing regions in Germany present their best wines. And don't worry, it's not just drinking here. Between the numerous wine stalls you will find gourmet stalls with delicacies that go perfectly with the wine. From cheese to olives to hearty sausage specialties – we in Thuringia know how to enjoy!
A stage program with fun and live music ensures a relaxed atmosphere. A mixture of medieval charm, exquisite wine and a pinch of Erfurt humor. So it's a feast for all the senses. Cheers!

From September 5th to 8th, 2024, Cathedral Square will become a wine mile.

The wine pass: Pay once, enjoy countless times. So you can go from stand to stand and enjoy different wines.
