In 2009 the monument “Willy Brandt at the Window”, created by David Mannstein and Maria Vill, was inaugurated. After the competition results were announced, this was preceded by an intensive public debate (“Erfurt Monument Dispute”) about questions about contemporary witnesses and historical truth, as a result of which the original lettering was changed from “Willy komm ans Fenster” to “Willy Brandt ans Fenster”. The already produced “komm” is now located in the Erfurt Cultural Quarter and represents the entrance to the exhibition “70 Years of Art in Architecture”, which can be seen until July 14th.
In the lecture, David Mannstein and Maria Vill talk about the idea, the debate and the implementation of their work. A look at other art-in-architecture works in Erfurt will complement the lecture.
